Kintra St – Temporary Projects

Govan, Glasgow 2005-6

Curation of five local artists to develop projects to highlight the process of change as a derelict wasteland was to be transformed by a large housing scheme.

Kintra Street 001, Glasgow.
Stephen Healey’s Birdfeeder hung from a lampost on the former Kintra Street for 3 winter months. The word ‘mountain’ was obscured by a coating of birdseed and revealed as the birds ate the food.
Kintra Street 002, Glasgow.
Katie Carmichael contacted former residents of the area (known locally as Wine Alley) from as far as New Zealand and Canada, collecting 89 anecdotes (the number of planned new homes) – these were displayed as labels on wine bottles along the old street.

Filmmakers Jamie Dempster and Stephen Bradley had been filming in the area for 3 years they collaged this footage together with visions for the future by local children and the commissioned architects.

Community project The Galgael Trust created a memorial to the Glasgow tradition of building ad hoc dovecots on areas of wasteground.
Kintra Street 005, Glasgow.
Artist Colin Begg tied 1000 parcel labels to the perimeter fence. The labels offered passers-by a lucky horseshoe in exchange for answering a question. More than 30 responses were received and Invitation remained in-situ for 5 days before being set alight.
