Govan, Glasgow 2008

The Signets are the permanent installation marking the culmination of a 3 year project addressing the transformation of a wasteland site into a new community of 89 homes in the once iconic ‘Wine Alley’ area of Govan. See also Lead Artist Menu – Kintra Signets – for temporary artworks in this project.

Kintra Signets 001, Govan.
Following the Temporary Projects stage (see Lead Artist menu) the strands of research were brought together as 5 differently themed zones.
Kintra Signets 002, Govan.
89 symbols were drawn from the research material. Each new home was allocated a symbol (signet).
Kintra Signets 004, Govan.
Each of the 89 signets is water etched into a rounded aluminium cube. They are installed throughout the area of the new housing.
Kintra Signets 005, Govan.
The signets were grouped according to 5 themes. Families made up of 2 or more signets with a common categorisation are installed on a pole topped with a family crest.

Each new homeowner received a pack containing a dvd about the project, a one-off rubber ‘graffiti’ stencil of their individual signet and a map showing the location of the metal cube
