Inverness 2008

The first public place created as part of the revitalised Old Town district – the space of virtue comprises 3 outcrops of stone, each has a birch tree growing from it and is named for one of the newly chosen virtues.

This project is dedicated to Evi Westmore 1975-2007

Each outcrop has a virtue inscribed into its sides in English, Gaelic and Old Norse The birch is the pioneer species of the Caledonian Forest. Made with Sam Barlow

The Three Virtues are intended to create a useful and stimulating public place.
Three Virtues 002, Inverness.
Through discussion groups, web and text votes, local people suggested virtues for the changing city. Perseverance, Open-heartedness and Insight were chosen.
Three Virtues 003, Inverness.
Project launch March 2008 – Gaelic song, contemporary dance, poetry, pipe band and three ministers were choreographed into a 30 minute performance by John McGeoch With Susan Christie and Annie Marrs
Three Virtues 001, Inverness.
Faith, Hope and Charity stood watch over Inverness from 1870-1955. As capital of the Highlands. Historically Inverness prides itself as being a civilising influence in the region and there is still 22% church attendance.
