Dumfries 1998

Permanent artwork, in two parts installed on either side of ‘The Caul’ across the River Nith in the town of Dumfries. Commissioned by Dumfries City Council with Dumfries and Galloway Arts Association and National Lottery.

The Crossing 001, Dumfries.
The Crossing comprises two representations of a woman about to cross the river.
The Crossing 002, Dumfries.
The figure was inspired by Devrogilla Baillol, she is credited with building the first bridge across the River Nith in the 13th Century.
The Crossing 003, Dumfries.
During times of flooding, the sculpture is partially submerged and becomes part of the river in a powerful way.
