Re-imagining the Centre

Inverness, Scotland, September 2009

Site-specific installations and live artworks by 24 artists presented through one week in September 2009. Re-imagining the centre was one of the projects created as part of Matt Baker’s tenure as lead artist for the Old Town area of Inverness. Co-curated with Susan Christie.

 

Re-Imagining the Centre 001, Inverness
Over 4 days Sundogs (Jennifer Cantwell and Annie Marrs) yarnbombed a series of four spaces with the domestic craft of knitting transposed to a civic scale.
Re-Imagining the Centre 002, Inverness
A multi-dimensional artwork created for and staged within the Old Town area of Inverness, Re-Imagining the Centre grew out of the three year public art experiment which has seen artists working alongside local people to redefine their city for the contemporary era.

Video collage mixed live in performance by Dan Norton, images are registered precisely and projected onto a building façade. Sound and images sampled from the surrounding environment.

7 Sunsets by Virginiai Hutchison. Seven corners of the city are highlighted with the application of gold leaf picking out the path of the sun over the space.
