Isle of Mull, 2012

Lode Stones was a private commission for the family that farm Treshnish at the far North Western tip of Mull in the Inner Hebrides. The site for the work is a natural formation of rock that once formed part of a boathouse that used to store a vessel for crossing to the uninhabited Treshnish Islands. The shore here is about half a mile from the farmhouse and only occasionally visited by walkers.

The Treshnish Isles are just offshore from Treshnish Point – they are now a designated wildlife reserve, but used to be part of Treshnish estate, when regular crossings would be made from the boathouse on the shore beneath the farmhouse.
