Those who find Erratic are invited to help the boulder on its way.
Sceneshifter echoes the shape of the viaduct, the boulder to which the bronze cast is fixed is regularly submerged by floodwater.
Five carved granite boulders (from the site) and bronze chain. Placed on top of the Clints of Dromore
Moss and lichen will gradually obscure the subtle carved features just as the remains of the settlement sink back into the land.
This stone was formed when the bed of the ocean that existed between the once separate land masses of Scotland and England was forced up to become the Southern Uplands of Scotland.
To enter the reserve one must pass through one of the small towns of Gatehouse and Creetown. Mary Smith’s poems were printed in two limited editions one for each town.
